From the builders that brought you beautiful communities like McKenzie Towne and Auburn Bay comes a brand new development set to drastically improve the lives of SE Calgary residents. Seton is a brand new neighbourhood that’s been described by the Calgary Herald as a “downtown-like core to serve the 120,000 or so people who live in the surrounding areas.” 

 

 

Set to begin major construction in 2015, Seton will differ from the surrounding neighbourhoods in more ways than one. The first and most apparent difference is that there won’t be any single-family homes in the neighbourhood. Seton Village is more akin to areas like the Beltline Downtown than neighbouring communities. Essentially, Seton is going to be the downtown for the suburbs, chock full of multi-family residences and storefronts. 

 

 

The mixed-use buildings in Seton will effectively give SE Calgary an urban feel that was unknown to the area prior. Brookfield Residential has proposed the inclusion of three distinct retail districts. There’s a section called the Regional Retail District, also known as Seton Blvd, for larger format retailers such as Save-On Foods, banks and other financial institutions, and a Cineplex Odeon movie theatre. Then there’s the Design District that will feature home décor and fashion boutiques. And at the heart of Seton SE Calgary, residents will be privy to the Market Street, an eclectic mix of specialty shops, boutiques, and cafes. 

 

Since Seton is comprised primarily of multi-family homes, it’s likely to attract a younger demographic. Many of the people moving to Seton Village in the years to come are likely to not only live in the neighbourhood but work there too. Such is the nature of multi-family residences. The South Health Campus in Seton employs more than 5,000 individuals from all over the region and in the years to come many of them may find themselves calling Seton home.  

 

On the subject on employment opportunities in SE Calgary, this influx of retailers will be ushering in countless jobs for the entire region. There’s more than 2.5 million square feet of office and retail space proposed for this stunning new community. 

 

In terms of amenities, it’s unlikely that residents of Seton Calgary will have to travel beyond the community for what they need. As mentioned, Seton has its very own hospital, there’s Seton Dental for taking care of your smile, and the Seton YMCA for getting your swell on. 

 

 

There has also been a proposal to expand the current C-Train LRT line to include a new leg that will enable Seton Calgary residents to easily move to and from the city centre.  

 

For families in Seton Village, they can count on several schools to be serving the community including the St. Elizabeth High School. Seton has its own branch of emergency services in addition to the South Health Campus, which includes their very own branch of the Calgary Police and Fire Department. 

 

But probably the most exciting part about living in Seton is that this is a very new community with a lot more to come. I’ve barely scratched the surface of this amazing community and everything to come, such as the brand new community centre, public library, and more.
