When you’re thinking about relocating to a new neighbourhood, chances are you’re going to ask yourself, “what are the schools like?” and “what school will my kid(s) be assigned to?”

It’s a question every parent asks each other when determining which community is going to best suit their family. For many of the families living in SE Calgary, they find that the area is extremely well served by a number of highly regarded educational institutions.

I tend to have a lot of clients ask me about this so I’ve put a brief list together to give you a brief snapshot of the options available to SE Calgary families:

It’s never too soon to start think about giving your child the best education possible. One thing I’ve noticed about SE Calgary is the sheer numbers of pre-schools that families have the option of sending their children to:

A Child First Preschool Inc.

Grow and Care Childcare and Preschool

Kids @ Play Preschool

Tiny Towne Schoolhouse

Copperfield Preschool

Little Learners Preschool

Public Schools in SE Calgary

There are several neighbourhoods that comprise SE Calgary and almost each one of them has its own school servicing that community. For public schools, the Calgary Board of Education is responsible for leading your child’s learning:

Elementary Schools

McKenzie Towne School (K-4)

McKenzie Lake School (K-4)

Fish Creek School (K-6)

Cranston School (K-4)

Douglasdale School (K-4)

Junior High Schools

MidSun School (7-9)

Nickle School (5-9)

Mountain Park School (5-9)

Sherwood School (4-9)

High Schools

Centennial High School (10-12)

Lord Beaverbrook High School (10-12)

Catholic Schools in SE Calgary

For families who have roots in religion, they’ll find value in the number of Christian schools that are currently servicing SE Calgary communities. Unlike many of the Calgary Board of Education Schools, many of the separate schools in these neighbourhoods cater to kids from Kindergarten all the way through to Grade 9:

Elementary schools/ Junior high schools

St. Sebastian School (K-6)

St. Albert the Great (K-9)

Blessed Cardinal Newman School (K-9) (Highschool)

Christ the King (K-9)

Private Schools

For families looking to spare no expense on their child’s education, there are quite a few private schools in and around Calgary that they can send their children to. Check out the options below:

Strathcona-Tweedsmar School

Rundle College

Clear Water Academy

Master’s Academy and College

West Island College

Post-secondary schools

When it comes time for your kids to take their education a step further and prime themselves to leave the nest, there are a handful of schools that parents can send their children to. Whether they’re more inclined towards applied learning or are partial towards academia, there’s a school suited for them:

The University of Calgary is Calgary’s largest post-secondary institution and offers degree-granting programs in a wide range of disciplines.

Mount Royal University is one of Calgary’s longest standing post-secondary institutions and remains highly regarded by employers across the region.

SAIT Polytechnic differs from universities and colleges because it strives to provide students with an applied education that will help them easily transfer the skills acquired there from the classroom to the workplace.

Like SAIT, Bow Valley College intends to give students the skills they need to meet success in the workplace.

Ambrose University is a Christian inspired post-secondary institution where faith meets higher education.

Well, I hope you’re happy with the little snapshot of the schooling options available to families in SE Calgary. If you have any more questions about the wonderful schools servicing the neighbourhoods in that area, you can give me a call and we’ll figure out which one of these communities will be the best fit!
